The mission of the Sign Language Institute Canada (SLIC) is to promote and enhance the acquisition and use of sign languages in Canada. SLIC aims to achieve this through various initiatives, including:

Education and Training: Offering comprehensive sign language courses and certification programs for both hearing and Deaf individuals, ensuring high-quality instruction and proficiency in sign language.

Advocacy: Advocating for the recognition and acceptance of sign languages as official languages, and promoting their use in various aspects of public and private life.

Community Engagement: Fostering a sense of community among sign language users and supporting the Deaf community through events, workshops, and social activities.

Research and Development: Conducting research to improve teaching methods, develop new educational materials, and stay updated on the latest advancements in sign language linguistics and technology.

Accessibility: Working towards making services, information, and opportunities accessible to Deaf individuals, ensuring equal participation in society.

By focusing on these areas, SLIC aims to create a more inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across Canada.
